Your role
We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and operate a comprehensive API Gateway that enables our platform to integrate dynamically and at scale with third-party systems. Specifically, you will work on connecting to our existing microservices, implementing authentication and authorization schemes, managing secrets, and configuring standardized data formats for interfaces of information systems in the healthcare and public sector (e.g., FHIR standard). You will work in a dynamic environment with cutting-edge technologies and directly contribute to advancing AI-driven digital transformation across Europe.
Responsibilities
Building and Operating a Configurable API Gateway
- Implement and continuously configure an API Gateway (e.g., Apache APISIX or Traefik) to enable flexible integration with third-party systems
- Develop custom integration solutions for hospital/practice information systems or municipal administration systems
- Implement complex network policies including rate limiting, ACLs, metered usage, and CORS
Security & Secrets Management
- Configure mTLS certificates, API keys, and other security mechanisms in collaboration with our DevOps team
- Connect the gateway to critical security components of our platform, including Keycloak, HashiCorp Vault, and our internally developed User Rights Management System
Platform Operations
- Operate and continuously enhance the system according to the requirements of the target systems
- Implement monitoring and alerting using Prometheus and Grafana
- Use GitOps practices with ArgoCD
- Optimize performance and troubleshoot issues in the microservices architecture
Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Several years of experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration
- Proven experience with API Gateway technologies (Apache APISIX, Traefik, Kong, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with HashiCorp Vault and secrets management
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD)
Domain Knowledge
- Proficient in mTLS, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and other authentication protocols
- Strong understanding of microservices architectures and service mesh concepts
- Experience with the FHIR standard and healthcare information systems is a plus
- Strong interest in artificial intelligence technologies
Soft Skills
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex system architectures
- Strong teamwork and communication skills when collaborating with diverse stakeholders
- Genuine interest in digitalization within the healthcare and public sector
