Overview & Getting Started

Swiss HealthAssist and AlpineAI Health are two ways to access the AlpineAI platform; they differ in terms of their target audiences and registration processes.

Swiss HealthAssist is designed exclusively for members of Health Info Net (HIN) and requires users to log in with their personal HIN eID. This ensures that patient data remains protected and medical confidentiality is maintained. The solution is being developed jointly by AlpineAI AG and HIN, and it is available exclusively through HIN.

AlpineAI Health is intended for all other healthcare professionals without a HIN connection and is accessed via a regular user account. When you purchase a license (Standard or Premium) on alpineai.swiss, it is for AlpineAI Health. Technically, both solutions are based on the same Swiss infrastructure; AlpineAI AG is certified according to ISO 27001:2022 and the VDSZ (Ordinance on Data Protection Certifications, SR 235.13). The security and data protection standards are identical for both access methods.

No, AlpineAI Health is not a medical device. The solution is offered exclusively for administrative and organizational purposes and is not intended for diagnosis, treatment, or medical decision support.

Medical responsibility remains entirely with the treating healthcare professional. Outputs from AlpineAI Health must be reviewed and approved by a medical professional before being incorporated into a patient’s medical record. The current state of language model technology does not yet allow for reliable diagnoses or automated adjustments to medical records. To enable broader use of the solution in the healthcare sector in the future, AlpineAI AG intends to pursue ISO 13485 certification.

To get started with AlpineAI, all you need is a device with an internet connection and a current browser. No installation, activation by your IT department, or prior training is required.

Technical:

• Computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection.
• A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge) or the AlpineAI mobile app for iOS and Android. Optionally, the AlpineAI Outlook plugin for working directly within your email program.

Organizational:

• Members of Health Info Net (HIN) use Swiss HealthAssist and log in with their personal HIN eID. Swiss HealthAssist is available exclusively through HIN.
• All other healthcare professionals use AlpineAI Health with a regular user account and a license from AlpineAI AG (Standard or Premium).
• A defined use case (e.g., progress documentation, report generation, patient communication).

Legal:

• You accept the General Terms and Conditions (GTC) of AlpineAI AG and enter into a Data Processing Agreement (DPA).
• For data subject to professional or official confidentiality, the Supplementary Agreement on the Processing of Confidential Data also applies, which strictly limits access to your data in plain text by contract.
• For recordings made using the Listener, you must obtain the prior verbal consent of all participants (Art. 179ter of the Swiss Criminal Code).

Once you've registered, AlpineAI is ready to use right away; there's no need to interrupt your practice or clinic operations.

From the very first second after registration, you can record a patient consultation, analyze a document, create an assistant, or generate a report on the AlpineAI Platform. Standard operation requires no involvement from your IT department—no SSO, whitelisting, or API integration is needed. For further training, AlpineAI AG offers a six-lesson e-learning course that can be completed at your own pace, as well as dedicated workshops for larger organizations featuring an introduction, prompting training, and exercises based on real-world scenarios. For enterprise setups—such as integrations with hospital information systems (HIS) or your own document repositories—we’ll work with you to plan the technical setup as part of the implementation process.

Features & Languages

Listener is AlpineAI's speech-to-text tool for everyday medical practice. It records patient conversations, medical histories, therapy sessions, or dictations directly through the microphone.

Existing audio files can also be uploaded and processed. The recordings are fully transcribed—reliably even in Swiss German—and, upon request, can be processed directly into reports, progress notes, meeting minutes, or summaries. In addition, Listener provides meeting metrics such as speaking shares, derives key facts and to-dos from the conversation, and enables full-text search with source citations.

The Listener is part of the AlpineAI Premium license. Recordings are processed on AlpineAI AG’s own hardware in Swiss data centers; AlpineAI AG is certified under ISO 27001:2022 and the VDSZ (Ordinance on Data Protection Certifications, SR 235.13). The consent of all participants is required for the recording (Art. 179ter of the Swiss Criminal Code).

The AlpineAI Outlook plugin is an extension for Microsoft Outlook that handles daily email tasks for medical practices and clinics, particularly correspondence with referring physicians, insurance providers, and the practice itself. It summarizes lengthy correspondence and reports in attachments at a glance, drafts suggested replies, and translates them into the Swiss national languages as well as English—for example, for referring physicians or patients from a different language region.

You remain in Outlook the entire time, without switching to a separate application. Your organization’s guidelines for sending patient data—typically via HIN—continue to apply. The Outlook plugin is included in both the Standard and Premium licenses of AlpineAI. For more details, see Products.

The AlpineAI platform supports all of Switzerland's national languages as well as English.

The full range of AlpineAI’s features is available in all of these languages: You can analyze a foreign-language preliminary report, draft a discharge summary in German, and have patient information translated into the patient’s language. The Listener, AlpineAI’s transcription feature, also supports German, English, French, and Italian for medical histories, patient consultations, and dictations, and reliably recognizes Swiss German—even when technical terms and dialect appear in the same sentence. It understands Romansh, though the quality is slightly lower.

AlpineAI currently uses Mistral Large 3 as its primary language model and is constantly switching to the best available model.

For use in medical practices and hospitals, AlpineAI AG specifically evaluates the models used for medical terminology, the accurate reproduction of medication and dosage information, and dictation and medical history-taking scenarios. AlpineAI AG runs all models on its own hardware in Switzerland; no model APIs from foreign providers are used. This applies equally to Swiss HealthAssist and AlpineAI Health. For more information on the model-agnostic approach, see Products.

Data, Security, and Legal Matters

AlpineAI AG stores and processes patient data on its own hardware in geographically redundant Swiss data centers certified to ISO 27001. This applies equally to Swiss HealthAssist and AlpineAI Health and includes uploaded documents as well as recordings and transcripts from the Listener.

The optional web search is an exception: If it is used, search query data is transmitted to an external search provider (Section 2.5 of the Terms and Conditions). It is subject to a three-step opt-in process and can be disabled at any time for the entire instance.

You can find all the details about data centers, subcontractors, and certifications on the Security page.

No, AlpineAI AG does not use patient data to train language models. This assurance is enshrined in the contract: Customer inputs are not fed back into the language model and are not used for its further development (Section 4.4 of the Terms and Conditions). This applies equally to Swiss HealthAssist and AlpineAI Health.

This covers all content you enter into the platform: uploaded reports and previous findings, documents in your assistants, as well as recordings and transcripts from the Listener. Section 4.4 of the Terms and Conditions also states that content you create or generate using the platform belongs to you; AlpineAI AG makes no claim to intellectual property rights in such content. All persons who come into contact with customer data in the course of operations are contractually bound to maintain confidentiality (Section 4.4 of the General Terms and Conditions). With regard to data subject to professional secrecy, AlpineAI AG is additionally contractually prohibited from using such data for its own purposes, in particular for training purposes (Supplementary Agreement on the Processing of Confidential Data).

No, prior anonymization or pseudonymization of patient data is not required to use the AlpineAI platform.

For data subject to professional secrecy, AlpineAI AG enters into a supplementary agreement with corporate clients regarding the processing of confidential data. Under this agreement, AlpineAI AG employees and subcontractors engaged by the company are granted access to this data in plain text only on a need-to-know basis and only with your prior individual authorization, in the event of an urgent emergency requiring business continuity, or pursuant to an enforceable order from a Swiss authority. Third parties will not be granted plaintext access, and services involving plaintext confidential data may be provided exclusively in Switzerland.

You can use it to record medical histories, progress notes, and reports using real names and case data. As a healthcare professional, you remain responsible for ensuring that there is a valid legal basis for processing this information.

Whether you are required to inform your patients separately about the use of AlpineAI depends on your own privacy policy and the specific purpose of the processing. As a healthcare professional, you remain the data controller under data protection law; AlpineAI AG acts as a data processor based on the Data Processing Agreement (DPA). As a general rule, it is sufficient if your privacy policy covers processing by data processors and lists AlpineAI AG as a Swiss data processor.

For data subject to professional confidentiality, the supplementary agreement on the processing of confidential data also applies. When using the listener to record patient conversations, the consent of all participants is also required (Art. 179ter of the Swiss Criminal Code); a verbal notice at the beginning of the conversation, followed by express consent, is sufficient. We recommend full transparency and consultation with your data protection officer.

AlpineAI AG processes patient data on a clearly defined contractual basis in accordance with the Swiss Data Protection Act (DSG) and the EU GDPR. Customers accept the General Terms and Conditions (GTC) and enter into a Data Processing Agreement (DPA). For data subject to official, professional, or other legal confidentiality obligations, AlpineAI AG also provides a supplementary agreement for the processing of confidential data.

AlpineAI AG processes content data on its own hardware in Swiss data centers. The Data Processing Agreement (DPA) limits processing to Switzerland and the EEA; all subcontractors used are disclosed in Annex 3 of the DPA, along with the purpose and location of processing, and are contractually obligated to maintain the same level of protection. The optional web search is an exception: if used, query data is transmitted to an external search provider (Section 2.5 of the Terms and Conditions). It is subject to a three-step opt-in process and can be disabled at any time for the entire instance.

All documents are publicly available; for more details, please visit the security page.

Integration & Licenses

Yes, AlpineAI can be integrated into existing hospital and practice information systems (HIS). The integration is carried out via the AlpineAI API platform (REST) in such a way that data flows function without the need for manual double entry.

Integrations with Axenita, Aeskulap, Ines, Logival, and Mediway are currently in production; AlpineAI AG is continuously working on additional integrations. Technical details regarding endpoints and authentication can be found on the API platform. The AlpineAI Outlook plugin, which works directly within the email program, is ready for use without any development effort. Custom integrations are included in the AlpineAI Enterprise package for 10 or more licenses and are planned in collaboration with your IT department.

AlpineAI AG offers three licensing models for AlpineAI Health: Standard, Premium, and Enterprise.

The Standard license includes chat, web search, two assistants (up to 50 documents each / max. 100 MB), file upload, and the Outlook plugin. The Premium license includes the same set of features with a total of five assistants (up to 50 documents each / max. 100 MB) and adds preconfigured assistants as well as the Listener for medical histories, patient consultations, therapy sessions, and dictations. Anyone who wants to record conversations and create reports from them will therefore need the Premium license. Both licenses are available for up to 9 individual user licenses and are billed monthly or annually, with the annual billing option being up to 10 percent cheaper.

For hospitals and larger group practices, the Enterprise package—which includes the full range of features, including integration with your hospital or practice information system—is available for 10 or more licenses at a price upon request.
